Online recurring payments

This is how you set up a recurring payment

  1. Go to the seller or provider’s shop or web page, or open their app.
  2. When taking out the subscription, select ‘Recurring payment’ as the payment method.
  3. If possible, select the frequency of the payment (for example, weekly, monthly or quarterly), enter your card details and select the amount.
  4. Check the data you’ve entered: the frequency, amount and card details.
  5. Some sellers ask you to agree to their General terms and conditions. Read them carefully and agree before continuing.
  6. Confirm the payment. You’ve now set up a recurring payment.

Please note: setting recurring payments is possible when you have a debit card from Mastercard, recognisable by the red-and-yellow logo an the indention on the short side of the card.

Difference between a recurring payment and a direct debit

A recurring payment is very similar to a direct debit, but there are some differences. If you set up a direct debit, you are authorising a company to debit money regularly from your account to pay for your insurance or monthly energy bills, for example.

Difference between a recurring payment and a standing order

A recurring payment using your debit card is very similar to a standing order, but there are some differences. You set up a standing order yourself in the ABN AMRO app or on Internet Banking, and the payment order repeats itself. It’s a convenient way of paying your rent, saving or giving your child pocket money. So no sellers are involved.
