Opening an account in the Netherlands

If you live in the Netherlands, it's handy to have a Dutch current account. You can pay your rent by standing order or direct debit, and transfer money to your home country, for example. You can also pay for your daily groceries with your debit card free of charge.

  1. Contact us and we will make an appointment for you with one of our advisers
  2. We will make an appointment at a branch near you, where we will check your ID
  3. After you have applied to open an account, you will receive your debit card and PIN by post

Documentation

Bring the following to your appointment: 

  • Your passport and your employment contract or a statement of initial employment particulars
  • Your Citizen Service Number. This number is given to you when you register with the municipality you live in

Your debit card and PIN

Within 3 to 5 working days, you will receive the following information in separate letters: 

  • Your debit card. The card is blocked and does not work
  • Your activation code
  • Your PIN
