The benefits of your new debit card
Paying with your card details

If you opt to enter your card number manually, simply enter the following details when you pay:
- Card number (16 digits)
- Expiry date
- CVC code (3 digits)
It works like a credit card, but the payment is debited from your current account straight away.
Reserving an amount

You can use your new debit card to pay for online shopping, book a hotel or rental car. A reservation is useful when the total amount or delivery date is uncertain. The amount of the reservation will be deducted from your disposable balance in your current account.
Paying with a linked debit card

If you’re a frequent shopper at a particular online shop, such as a supermarket, you can link your debit card to this online shop in the ABN AMRO app. Then pay with one simple tap!

Setting up recurring payments with your debit card
Pay your favourite apps, streaming subscription or meal delivery service with your debit card. With a recurring payment, you no longer have to worry about it.

Differences between your new debit card and a credit card
Your new debit card has more details, but it’s still an ‘ordinary’ debit card. Payments are debited from your current account right away, so you don’t pay later like you do with a credit card.

This is what your new debit card looks like
You’ll recognise the new debit card from the red-and-yellow logo and the indentation on the short side of the card. You’ll see the following details on your new debit card:
- Card number (front, 16 digits)
- Card number (back, 3 digits)
- Card Verification Code (CVC, 3 digits)
- Expiry date
- Account number or IBAN (e.g.: NL 99 ABNA 0123456789)
- Your name

FAQs about the new debit card
Can I make use of all the new options?
Your new debit card allows you to do everything you could do with your old Maestro debit card. Whether you can use the extra payment options depends on your age (you must be at least 18), whether you are subject to certain conditions (under administration, for example) and whether you use the ABN AMRO app. The online payment options, such as paying with your card number and CVC code or paying with your linked debit card, are only available if you use the ABN AMRO app.
Will my PIN stay the same?
Yes, your new or replacement debit card will have the same PIN as your present card.
Can I refuse to change my current debit card for this new card?
All our clients will be sent a new debit card because the Maestro brand is being withdrawn. You will not be able to keep using your old debit card.
Will my new debit card automatically work abroad? And do I still have to set it to Europe or World?
You’ll be able to pay with your new card anywhere in Europe. If you want to pay outside Europe, you must set your payment profile to 'World'. You can do this easily in the ABN AMRO app or on Internet Banking.
Please note: remember to change your payment profile back to Europe on your return.
Does my transaction overview show which card I used to make each payment?
If you click the transaction, you’ll see the last 4 digits of the 16-digit number of the debit card you used for the transaction in question.
