Reversing a direct debit
Reversing a direct debit
If a direct debit is debited from your current account when you did not issue a direct debit authorisation, you can reverse this payment through Internet Banking or the ABN AMRO app. You can reverse the payment up to 56 days after the collection date.
- Log into Internet Banking or the ABN AMRO app
- In your account summary, tap the current account from which the amount is to be debited
- Tap the transaction you want to reverse
- If the transaction is incorrect, click 'Reverse'
- Confirm the transaction reversal
A direct debit is not the same as a standing order. A standing order is something you set up yourself, whereas a direct debit is not.
Is the payment not a direct debit?
Then there are two possibilities:
- The payment is a standing order. You set up a standing order yourself and can stop it yourself.
- Paying via recurring payments is similar to a direct debit. However, there are differences. With a direct debit, you give a company permission to regularly withdraw money from your bank account, for example, for your insurance or monthly energy bill. This can only be done with a Mastercard debit card. Contact the seller's or provider's customer service to stop a recurring payment.
