You should only invest money that you do not need and that is surplus to  your buffer for unforeseen expenses. While investments can be profitable, they are also associated with risks. You could lose all or part of your initial investment, so you need to be aware of this. We advise you to limit your investment activities to products that match your knowledge and experience.

When you use Self Directed Investing Plus, you make your own choices without any advice from us. If you are aware of the risks associated with investments, you will be better able to judge the level of risk that you find acceptable and avoid unpleasant surprises. Fees

This is what you pay us

You pay us service fees and transaction fees. Service fees are charges for administering your investment portfolio and providing information in relation to that portfolio. You pay transaction fees when you buy and sell your investment products.

This is what you pay other parties

If you have investment funds in your portfolio, you must bear in mind the costs incurred by these funds, such as management fees and administration charges. We refer to these as ongoing charges and they are already incorporated in the investment fund prices. The Key Investor Information for each fund specifies the costs.

Calculation example

Impact of costs on your return

This example shows the impact that all the fees and costs have on your investment. We have used a fixed return of 4% a year in the calculation. Your actual return may be different of course. This fixed return allows you to make an effective comparison between our costs and fees and those of other parties offering investment services.

This is not a forecast, purely an example. If the return is higher or lower than in the example, the fees and costs will also be higher and lower in most cases.

Initial value of the investment: €100,000 Sell after 1 year Sell after 3 years Sell after 5 years
Result based on a return of 4% per year €104,000 €112,486 €121,665
Fees for our investment service 0.08% per year + €9 per month, inclusive of VAT €188 €564 €941
Fees for all the investment products in your portfolio 0.53% per year, exclusive of VAT €530 €1,625 €2,769
Total costs €718 €2,189 €3,710
Total costs as percentage of the result 0.69% 1.95% 3.05%

We have calculated the costs based on the net return per year, i.e. the return minus the costs. You see the total costs expressed as an amount and as a percentage of the results after 1, 3 and 5 years.

Sustainable investments

Sustainable investments are investment products where the consequences of the investment play a key role. This is also referred to as socially responsible investment. The sustainable investor wants to help to create a better world, and is not only interested in the environment, but also in protecting human rights and supporting education.

Socially responsible investment is a key principle within ABN AMRO. Some investments are completely excluded from all the forms of investment that we offer, for example, investments in companies that make cluster bombs and land mines.
