The standard cover gives you everything you need for a well-insured holiday, such as cover for medical costs. And if you have children younger than 5, they are automatically covered at no extra charge.

If you are going away for more than 2 weeks per year, annual travel insurance will probably give you better value for money and it will cover all trips you take throughout the year, including weekend breaks in your own country.

If you’re going diving while on holiday, that’s no problem. Simply take out extra underwater sports cover as part of your short-term travel insurance policy and take the plunge with peace of mind. Any scuba diving equipment you rent is also covered against damage and theft. 

Short-term: what is covered and what is not?

You are insured for things such as:

  • Loss or theft of your luggage
  • Assistance if you have an accident or fall ill
  • Early return home due to illness or an accident
  • Longer stay due to a natural disaster
  • Damage to your tent during your trip

You are not insured for things such as:

  • Loss or damage caused intentionally
  • Loss or damage caused under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication
  • Loss or damage caused by a dangerous sport
  • Loss or damage during business trips
  • Unnecessary medical costs

Standard or comprehensive cover

A lot of things are included in the standard cover, such as medical costs and cover for children younger than 5. If you would prefer to have a higher insured amount per claim, take out our comprehensive cover. You can also extend your insurance to include cover for winter and underwater sports. Check what is covered and what is not .

Please note: business trips are not covered under the short-term travel insurance policy. If you need cover for a business trip, please take out the additional cover 'Business trips' with the annual travel insurance.

Who is it for

Our short-term travel insurance policy is right for you if:

  • you have an ABN AMRO current account;
  • you only go on holiday once a year;
  • you are going on holiday with several people. You can insure up to seven people on the same insurance policy;
  • you have young children. Children up to the age of 5 years are covered at no charge.

Please note: business trips are not covered under the short-term travel insurance policy. If you need cover for a business trip, please take out ABN AMRO annual travel insurance.

European or worldwide

European cover
If you opt for European cover, you can choose from either the standard or the comprehensive cover options. The comprehensive cover option offers higher pay-outs.

European cover includes the following geographical areas:

  • all European countries, including Russia up to the Urals in the east;
  • countries around the Mediterranean: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey;
  • Spanish islands (the Balearics, the Canary Islands);
  • Portuguese islands (Madeira/Porto Santo, the Azores).

Worldwide cover
Worldwide cover includes the Netherlands, Europe and the rest of the world. If you opt for worldwide cover, only the comprehensive cover option is available.

Insured amounts

Find out the maximum compensation you can receive in the event of a claim .

The  list of depreciation  (in Dutch) indicates the average life and annual depreciation rate for each product.

Costs

Premium
Your premium depends on the following:

  • The number of people travelling
  • The length of your trip
  • Standard or comprehensive cover
  • European or worldwide cover
  • Winter sports or underwater sports cover

Excess
The standard excess on luggage and cash is €50 per event.

Policy fee
You will pay €3.50 for each policy.

Insurance tax
You do not pay any insurance tax.

Commission
ABN AMRO Bank N.V. provides personal customers with non-life insurance products on behalf of ABN AMRO Schadeverzekering N.V. We receive a fee of 25% of the premium for this. You can read more about our services on our non-life insurance information sheet .

Term of this insurance

  • Minimum of 3 days.
  • Maximum of 180 days.

In the case of a delay, illness or accident while on holiday, the insurance will be extended at no additional charge.

Our short-term travel insurance gives you excellent cover for your trip. For instance, you are covered when you need help due to an accident or illness, leading to you to cut your trip short and medical costs abroad. Your luggage is also covered against loss and theft. Short-term travel insurance covers you for just one trip, whereas annual travel insurance covers all year long, no matter how often you travel. If you go on holiday more than twice a year, annual travel insurance will be the cheaper option for you.
You can take out the policy for trips of between 3 and 180 days. If you need to spend longer than planned at your destination, due to delays, illness or an accident, the short-term travel insurance policy will be extended at no additional charge.
There is always only one policyholder. This is also the case if the premium is debited from your joint account. Only the policyholder can view the insurance policies in Internet Banking.
