Compensation arrangement

Our reimbursement to you as an investor

Because you invest with us, you will temporarily receive a compensation of a part of the negative interest. This compensation is deducted from the negative interest you have to pay. The Negative Interest Statement shows you how much compensation you will receive.

Please note: As of 1 July 2021, we will be lowering the threshold above which you will pay negative interest. Read more about this here.

Current compensation until 30 June 2021

The current compensation only applies the first two quarters of 2021 until 30 June. The compensation amounts to 50% of the service costs that you pay on your investments, up to a maximum of € 2,500 per quarter.

New compensation from 1 July 2021

Starts on 1 July and runs until 31 December 2021. The compensation amounts to 25% of the service costs that you pay on your investments, up to a maximum of € 2.937,50 per quarter.

Questions and answers

Am I eligible for the compensation? (1 January 2021 to 30 June 2021)
If you have a balance of more than € 500,000 in your savings and current accounts and an investment account, you are eligible for this compensation scheme.

Am I eligible for the compensation? (1 July 2021 to 31 December 2021)
If you have a balance of more than € 150,000 in your savings and current accounts and an investment account, you are eligible for this compensation scheme.

How do the balances of joint investments count?
Joint investments also count in the calculation of the compensation at customer level. If there are two account holders, compensation on the joint account is included for 50% per account holder. For 3 account holders, the division is 33 1/3% per account holder.

Why is the compensation capped per quarter?
We want to meet the costs of negative interest for investing clients. At the same time, the bank does incur these costs. That is why the compensation is capped.

To which account is the compensation reimbursed?
The compensation is settled with the negative interest to be charged.

Can I choose to which account the compensation is reimbursed?
No, the compensation is always settled against the negative interest to be charged. The amount is not paid out separately.

When does the compensation scheme start?
The compensation scheme under which the contribution amounts to 50% of the service costs, with a maximum of € 2,500, takes effect on 1-1-2021.

The compensation scheme under which the contribution is 25% of the service costs, with a maximum of € 2,937.50 takes effect on 1-7-2021.

How do we inform you of a change in the scheme?
If we make a change to the compensation scheme after 1 January 2021, we will announce this two months in advance. We will do this in the usual way: by letter or by bankmail.

When will I receive the compensation on the negative interest?
In the event of negative interest, the interest is debited in the month following a calendar quarter. The compensation is deducted from this debit. Example: you pay the negative interest for the period April-May-June in the month of July. The debit, including compensation, will then take place in the 2nd half of July.

Is the booking of the compensation visible?
No, the booking of the compensation is not separately visible. The negative interest statement provides insight into the amount of the compensation.

Do I also have to pay negative interest on money in my investment accounts?
Assets in investments are not included in the total balance on which negative interest must be paid. Liquidities in the asset management account also do not count towards negative interest. Liquidities on other (investment) accounts (whether or not an asset contract) do count towards negative interest. Look here for more information about the calculation of negative interest.

Can I invest more to get more discount on my negative interest?
The compensation is temporary and capped. You should only invest capital that you have over and above your buffer for unforeseen expenses. Investing can be interesting, but it is not without risk. You may lose (a part of) your investment. It is good to be aware of this.
