Car theft or break-in: how to file a claim

File a police report

If your car is stolen or broken into, file a police report as soon as possible. You will need your car title and insurance policy details to do so.

File a claim

Also report your car damage to us. We will ask you for additional information, such as proof of charge (police report) and any photos of the damage.

Personal claims process

You will have a dedicated point of contact who will answer any questions you have about the theft of your car, break-in damage, and your insurance.

What to do if your car is stolen or broken into

If your car is stolen:

  • Report the theft to the police on 088 - 662 82 88. Make sure you have your car title and driving licence on hand.
  • Read more about reporting a stolen car at the vehicle crime insurance agency VbV (in Dutch).
  • File a claim with ABN AMRO Verzekeringen. If you have the Third-Party Liability + Limited Cover or Third-Party Liability + Comprehensive Cover they will pay the claim. They will also provide you with a courtesy car to help you get back on the road as quickly as possible.

Stolen car parts

  • Report the theft to the police on 088 - 662 82 88. Make sure you have your car title and driving licence on hand. 
  • File a claim with ABN AMRO Verzekeringen and we will help you where necessary to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.
  • Make an appointment with the garage to have your car repaired via the ABN AMRO Claims Service.

Car break-in

  • Report the break-in to the police on 088 - 662 82 88. Make sure you have your car title and driving licence on hand. 
  • File a claim with ABN AMRO Verzekeringen and we will help you where necessary to get you back on the road as quickly as possible.
  • Make an appointment with the garage to have your car repaired via the ABN AMRO Claims Service.

What is covered and what is not

The limited and comprehensive covers include coverage for:

  • Theft or attempted theft 
  • Break-in
  • Embezzlement or fraud

The limited and comprehensive covers do not include coverage for:

  • Theft of your car if your car key is lost or stolen, unless you could not have known that the car key was lost or stolen

What you can expect from us in the event of theft or break-in

  • Access to our 24/7 emergency line
  • A free courtesy car at your disposal in the Netherlands in case of theft. The lessor of the replacement car may apply an excess. You can sometimes cancel or reduce this excess by paying an amount.
  • A free courtesy car so you can get around while your car is being repaired by a repair shop affiliated with the ABN AMRO Claims Service
