What to do in the event of damage

Caused by a breakdown

Roadside assistance is covered by the additional modules 'Breakdown assistance Netherlands' and/or 'Breakdown assistance abroad'. View your options:

  • If your car breaks down while you're on the road, in the town or city where you live or at home, call us on 026 400 23 45. If calling from outside the Netherlands, please call + 0031 26 400 23 45. Roadside assistance is available 24/7.
  • An employee will go through the details with you and make sure you receive the appropriate help as soon as possible.
  • If you are on the road and repair is not immediately possible, we will arrange a courtesy car for you so you can get back on the road as quickly as possible.

Caused by yourself

Damage to your car caused by yourself is only covered by a Third-Party Liability + Comprehensive Cover policy. There cannot have been deliberate intent. Here's what you can do:

  • File your claim online or over the phone.

Caused by another party, details known

Damage to your car caused by another party will often be compensated by the other party's car insurance. With the Direct Claims Settlement (DCS), you only need to report the damage to us. We'll do the rest.

  • File your claim online or over the phone.
  • If you are eligible for DCS, we will contact the liable party's insurer and submit the claim.
  • We will compensate you for the damage straight away. That way, you will not have to wait a long time for the liable party's insurer to pay out.

Caused by another person, details unknown or uninsured offender

In the event of damage to your motor vehicle caused by another person whose details you do not have, you can file a claim with the Dutch Motor Traffic Guarantee Fund (Waarborgfonds Motorverkeer). You can also file a claim here if the offender is uninsured. The Guarantee Fund helps those who have incurred damage caused by an unknown or uninsured offender. Before submitting your claim, check the conditions that your claim has to meet.

Caused by theft, burglary or vandalism

Theft and burglary are covered by Third-Party Liability + Limited Cover and Third-Party Liability + Comprehensive Cover. Vandalism is covered by a Third-Party Liability + Comprehensive Cover policy. View your options:

  • Read the checklist to find out which documents you need and have them to hand. File your claim online or over the phone.
