Download the ABN AMRO app and follow the on-screen instructions. Enter ABNBEGIN in the promotional code field. Once you’ve opened the account, activate the ABN AMRO app and your new debit card.

1. Open an account, activate the app and your debit card and make 25 payments using your new card and you’ll receive the first €75.
2. If you open a Direct Savings account, you'll receive another €25
3. Save €150 or more within the first 3 months of opening your current account and you'll receive another €25

Tip: making 25 payments of one euro cent doesn’t count as making 25 payments. You must make 25 real payments with your physical or digital debit card to earn your first gift. 

Please note: you have a total of 3 calendar months to complete these 3 steps. This period starts on the date you open your current account. To receive a gift from step 2 onwards, you must first have completed the previous steps.

How to recognise the gift on your statement

• Gift 1 - 25 payments made
• Gift 2 - Direct Savings acc
• Gift 3 - You've saved EUR 150

The money will be in your account within a month of completing a step. Every 2 weeks, we’ll check whether you’ve completed one or more of the 3 steps. We’ll also check whether you did this within 3 months of opening your account and whether you’ve already completed the previous steps. If all of this is OK, we’ll start paying you.

If you forgot to enter the promotion code during the request process, you’re unfortunately not eligible for the welcome gift of up to €125.

This promotion applies to the Basic Payment Package (a bank account for yourself).

The Basic Payment Package contains a current account, a debit card and access to online banking services. It is a flexible payment package, which means you choose what you want in addition to your basic package. For example, you may want to have a credit card or an extra debit card. The Basic Payment Package consists of a bank account with 1 debit card and costs €4.30 per month.

You can open an account and identify yourself through the ABN AMRO app with the following forms of identification:

• Dutch identity document (identity card, driving licence or passport)
• International passport (except United States passport)
• EU/EER identity card (except Greece and Romania)
• Residence permit (type I, II, III, IV, V, EU/EEA, EU/EEA family member)

In this case, you can only become a client at an ABN AMRO branch. Make an appointment at one of our branches to do this. You can do this by contacting us (standard call charges apply).

After you upload your identity document, you will be asked to verify the details. You can change your name and date of birth if necessary. Your application may be rejected if the details cannot be properly verified. You can then restart the application.

As of January 2026, we no longer require nationals from the European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA) to provide proof of residence. Once we’ve approved your request, your account will be ready for use.

If you want to open an account with a passport or ID issued by a country outside the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA), we need to verify that you live in the Netherlands. We want to be sure that you are who you say you are when you open an account. This helps us to prevent fraud, for example abuse of your current account.

For this reason, one of the things we need from you is proof of residence. You can open the account even without proof of residence, but you cannot use it yet.

All banks are required to verify the identity of their customers and ABN AMRO is no exception. This requirement is set out in the Dutch Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing (Prevention) Act and helps to prevent money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

You will receive information about the status of your application via SMS and e-mail within 4 hours after completing the application. Has your application been rejected?
