Change to the terms and conditions for a Student Package
The terms and conditions for our Student Package will change on 1 January 2026. As of that date, you will be eligible for a free student account if you are actively studying and between the ages of 18 and 25. The account is currently for students aged between 16 and 30, for a maximum of 7 years. What does this mean exactly?
- If you’re currently aged 25 or older, from January 2026 you will have a Basic Payment Package, for which you’ll pay a monthly fee.
- If you turn 25 in 2026, you will be switched to a Basic Payment Package in the month following your birthday.
- If you’re currently 16 or 17 years old, you will keep your Student Package until you turn 25.
Your account number, debit card and access to the ABN AMRO app will of course all remain the same. If you have a Student credit card, we will convert it into an ABN AMRO credit card. You can continue using the same card.
If you currently have a Medical Students Package, the terms and conditions will not change and you can continue using the package until you turn 30.
No more printed quarterly statements
If you receive a printed bank statement every quarter, this will stop as of 1 January 2026, as we will no longer be offering this service. From then on, you’ll receive a monthly statement, for which we charge €1.25 per month. You can of course opt to view and download bank statements and overviews free of charge on Internet Banking and in the ABN AMRO app.
Surcharge for non-residents for the current account
Do you have a current account and live abroad? The costs we incur as a bank for clients who live outside the Netherlands or in the Caribbean Netherlands (the ‘BES islands’) are generally higher. A portion of these higher costs is incorporated into our fees. The amount of the surcharge depends on the risk profile of the country where you live, which we reassess each year. The situation in certain countries has changed, putting these countries into a different risk category. As a result, the surcharge has changed. The risk category for the following countries will change on 1 January 2026:
- Andorra
- Micronesia
- Israel
- North Macedonia
- Taiwan
- Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
- Aruba
- Saint Lucia
- Mauritius
- Nauru
