Your debit card has got a new look and lets you do even more

You can do more with your new Mastercard debit card than simply withdraw cash, and make card and contactless payments. If you use the ABN AMRO app, it's easy to book a hotel or hire a car using your new debit card. And you can pay in over 80 million shops throughout the world, both online and offline. Take a look at all of the features available with the Mastercard debit card.

This is what your new debit card looks like

You’ll recognise the new debit card from the red-and-yellow logo and the indentation on the short side of the card. You’ll see the following details on your new debit card:

  • Card number (front, 16 digits)
  • Card number (back, 3 digits)
  • Card Verification Code (CVC, 3 digits)
  • Expiry date
  • Account number or IBAN (e.g.: NL 99 ABNA 0123456789)
  • Your name

All about your debit card

1. Mastercard

Your ABN AMRO debit card shows the red-and-yellow Maestro logo. You can securely withdraw money and make payments throughout the Netherlands and in most places worldwide with your ABN AMRO Mastercard debit card.

2. Name of account holder(s)

The debit card shows the name that ABN AMRO has on record.

3. Account number

The debit card shows the account number of the account to which the debit card is linked. The account number consists of a country code (two letters), a checksum (two digits) and a national account number.

4. Card number

Your card number is created by ABN AMRO. This number is increased by one every time you’re sent a new card.

You need your card number to use the e.dentifier and to install the ABN AMRO app.

5. Validity

Your debit card shows a month and a year. This is the date on which your debit card expires.

6. PAN card number

The ABN AMRO debit card shows a PAN number (Primary Account Number). This is a 17 or 19-digit code, which is linked to the debit card. The PAN number ensures that your transactions are recognisable to any national and international parties that enable payments or withdrawals.

The PAN card number can also be used to link your debit card to Apple Pay, Google Pay or a wearable.

7. CVC code

There's a 3-digit CVC code (Card Verification Code) on the back of your debit card.

More information and terms & conditions

Who it is for

The debit card is available to all ABN AMRO customers with a payment package or personal account.

Included with your debit card as standard

  • Contactless payments
  • Payments at all payment terminals in the Netherlands
  • Payments at all payment terminals abroad that have the Maestro logo
  • Cash withdrawals
  • Payment of parking fees with entering your PIN (Dip & Go)

Fees

If you have an ABN AMRO payment package, you will not be charged for your debit card. If you only have a current account, but no payment package, your monthly fee will be €1.50.

Payment terminals

Euro payments in the Netherlands and all countries in the Eurozone are free of charge. Payments in other currencies cost € 2.25 per payment, plus a 1.2% exchange fee.

Withdrawal cash

In the Netherlands

The following limits apply to cash withdrawals in the Netherlands:

  • €500
  • €10.000

You can change your limit up to a maximum of €10.000 per day.

In other countries

As standard, you can withdraw up to €500 per day at ATMs outside the Netherlands. Please note that this amount may vary depending on the country or bank. These variations are out of ABN AMRO’s control.

OVpay: contactless payments on public transport

Your ABN AMRO debit card is a secure way of making contactless payments on public transport. Just hold your card up to the card reader in the same way as your public transport smart card.

You don't need to enable or download anything beforehand.

OVpay works right away. Simply hold your debit card up to the screen of a ticket barrier or card reader to check in and out. All Dutch public transport companies are offering the service and your fare will be automatically taken out of your current account.

Reserved amounts on your account

A reserved amount is an amount that is temporarily reserved when you make a payment using your debit card. This lets the seller know that you can pay the amount.

Let’s say you fill up your car at a pay-at-pump petrol station. You don’t know in advance how much you need to pay. You insert your debit card, the petrol station reserves an amount (e.g. €150) and once you’ve finished filling up your car, the petrol station debits the final amount from your account. You see the actual amount charged and the name of the petrol station on your account overview, rather than ‘Reserved amounts’.

The words ‘Reserved amounts’ and the amount reserved are only displayed on your account overview temporarily. You’ll see them on Internet Banking or in the ABN AMRO app, but not on your paper bank statements.
