The Mastercard ID Check is an extra check when you pay online using your debit card. It tells us whether you’re really the one making the payment and it helps prevent fraud wherever possible. We don’t perform this check for every payment. You can usually complete the payment without any extra steps.

When paying online using your debit card, you’ll get a message asking you to confirm the payment in the ABN AMRO app. Open the ABN AMRO app and check the payment details. If everything’s correct, confirm the payment in the app and go back to the online shop. It’s that easy!

If an online shop uses this check, you might be sent to a secure page during the payment process to confirm your payment.
The check was successful, but the payment wasn’t. How is this possible?
Before you make the payment, the Mastercard ID Check checks whether you're really the one making the payment. Very occasionally, the bank blocks the payment if fraud is suspected. The payment might also fail for other reasons related to your account or debit card. These include:
- Your account balance is too low
- The amount you need to pay is higher than your daily online limit
