Breakdown in Europe

24/7 breakdown assistance while driving in Europe

The additional Breakdown in Europe cover on the annual travel insurance provides 24/7 breakdown assistance within Europe. This covers the car you are on holiday with and situations where the driver is no longer able to drive. You will be reimbursed for the costs of emergency repairs, towing, a replacement vehicle or the return of your car to the Netherlands.

What is covered and what is not?

You are insured for things such as:

  • Assistance from a Dutch-speaking alarm centre
  • Emergency roadside repairs
  • Cost of towing to the nearest garage
  • Alternative transport
  • Extra accommodation expenses

You are not insured for things such as:

  • The cost of repairs by a garage
  • Running out of fuel

How does breakdown cover work?

If you have taken out the additional Breakdown in Europe cover option, you can call a Dutch-speaking alarm centre 24 hours per day. Simply call them if you have an accident or your car breaks down and they will arrange for emergency repairs to be carried out or for your car to be towed to the nearest garage.

Credit card: required for alternative transport

Are you abroad and do you need alternative transport? For example, because you had a breakdown with your own car? Then having a credit card is necessary in most cases. When renting a car abroad you almost always need a credit card as a deposit. The costs for the rental car will be reimbursed by your insurance. If you return the rental car neatly and on time, nothing will be debited from your credit card.
