Good question! Unfortunately, this is not (yet) possible.
Why can't I make a transfer?
If your old debit card has already expired, you cannot transfer funds. This is why you should activate your new debit card right away. You can do so in 1 of 3 ways:
- by paying with your debit card and PIN in a shop;
- by checking your balance at an ATM;
- by withdrawing money at an ATM.
Tip: a new card has a different card number. Make sure you use your new card number when logging in to Internet Banking or the ABN AMRO app.
I am abroad. How can I activate my new debit card?

- By withdrawing money at an ATM.
Can I also activate my debit card at a different bank's ATM?

Can I also activate my debit card by making a contactless payment?
No, unfortunately not, but you can activate your debit card by paying in a shop or by checking your balance at an ATM.
I still haven't received a new debit card. What should I do?
When your card is about to expire, you'll receive a letter with more detailed information. We’ll send your new debit card within a month of this letter. If you still haven't received it after that time, check your address.
- If the address is incorrect, please let us know the correct address. You can then request a new debit card at the right address.
- If the address is right but you still haven't received your new debit card after a month, please get in touch with us.
What should I do with my old debit card?
Cut your old debit card in two and throw it away. Make sure you also cut the golden chip on the front of your card in two, as this will prevent others from misusing your card.
My new debit card doesn't work. What should I do now?
If your new debit card doesn't work, it probably has not yet been activated. You can activate your card:
- by paying in a shop using your debit card and PIN;
- by checking your balance at an ATM;
- by withdrawing money at an ATM.
If you have already activated your card in one of the three ways described above, but it still doesn't work, please contact us.
