What happens if you can no longer make your payments?

There's always a possibility that you'll miss a mortgage payment - because you've become unemployed, perhaps, or are getting divorced. If you can no longer make your payments, the bank is allowed to sell your home. But not before we've worked with you to find a solution.

Money problems after the financial crisis

The financial crisis has left a lot of people without jobs, while it's also become more difficult to sell a home. If you think you could run into money problems, speak to us. We're here to help you find a solution - just get in touch to make an appointment with an adviser.

Mortgage shortfall

When you sell your home, you have to pay back your mortgage. The proceeds from the sale of your home may not be enough to pay off your mortgage. In that case, you'll have a shortfall debt - in other words, part of the mortgage that you still have to pay back to us.  You'll also continue paying interest until you've paid back the mortgage in full.

Avoid problems

There's always a possibility that you'll miss a mortgage payment. Please contact us if this happens - we're ready to help you find a solution. ABN AMRO will only sell your home if we can't find another suitable solution.
