New way to log in to Internet Banking
The method of logging in to and approving transactions on Internet Banking is changing for personal clients who only use Internet Banking with the e.dentifier. This change is necessary to keep banking secure, which is why we’re asking these clients to choose a new login method. The actual banking will remain the same for these clients, it’s just the way they log in and approve transactions that will change. From June to December 2026, we’ll let these clients know personally when it’s their turn to choose their new way to log in. These clients don’t have to do anything at this stage.
Find out what’s changing, why it’s necessary and how we can help these clients.
For business clients or personal clients who already use the ABN AMRO app to log in to Internet Banking, nothing will change.
If you’re a personal client who only uses Internet Banking with the e.dentifier, the following information is important to note.

What you can expect
If you currently use the e.dentifier to log in to Internet Banking, we’ll let you know personally when it’s your turn to change the way you log in. You’ll receive an email or letter telling you that a new message is waiting for you on Internet Banking. In this message, we’ll ask you to choose a new way to log in. The way you do your banking on Internet Banking will stay the same. It’s just the way you log in and approve transactions that will change.
Between June and December 2026, you’ll receive a personal message from us explaining how to choose a new method to log in and approve transactions. You’ll have enough time afterwards to submit your choice. So until you receive this message from us, you don’t need to do anything.
Please note: to properly protect your personal data and money from fraud, we ask you to log in only through Internet Banking. This is where you can check your messages and perform any actions.
Choose what’s right for you
If you’ve received a message from us, you can choose a new way to log in. You have two options, both of which can be used for Internet Banking.
- ABN AMRO app: the app lets you log in and approve transactions on Internet Banking. This way of logging in and approving transactions is right for you if you use a mobile phone or tablet.
- Security key: if you don’t have a (compatible) phone or don’t want to use it for your banking, you can choose the security key. This is a kind of USB stick that you insert into your computer.
The security key will be sent to you by post, and you have to activate it yourself. It’s subject to a one-off fee of €10.
Once you’ve made your choice, please let us know on Internet Banking. We’ll explain how in our personal message to you.
Help with your choice
Not sure you can do this yourself? Or worried about someone you know who needs help? We understand that this change may raise questions, so we’re here for you. You can count on:
- Clear step-by-step explanations
- Easy-to-understand manuals and videos
- Help through a dedicated phone number
- Personal support from a Help with Banking Adviser
People who help you, such as family members or carers, can also use these services.
Reason for the change
Your banking is important and it’s our duty to make sure you can bank securely. This is why we keep innovating and we set strict requirements for our login methods. This ensures that you can continue banking securely in the future.

The ABN AMRO app
The e.dentifier is needed less and less often. You can now do all your banking using the ABN AMRO app. It may take a while to get used to, but the ABN AMRO app is secure, quick and reliable. You can use the app only to log in to Internet Banking, or you can use it to do your banking and sign orders. Download the ABN AMRO app and discover all the options for yourself.

The security key
The security key (a type of USB stick) lets you log in and confirm orders securely on Internet Banking. You don’t need a smartphone or the app, as you log in using a combination of the security key, username and PIN. You then carry on banking on your computer in the usual way.
