Scammers’ modus operandi
Tips to protect yourself and prevent debit card fraud (skimming)
- Never send your debit card and never give it to anyone else. We will never ask you to do this!
- Never share your security codes, such as your PIN or 5-digit identification code for the ABN AMRO app.
- If your debit card is set to expire soon, we will automatically send you a new one. You don’t have to request a new card.
- Once you have received and activated your new debit card, cut up your old one, making sure you cut through the chip. This will render it useless.
- Don’t withdraw cash at an ATM that looks different to normal. There could, for example, be a small device on the card slot that wasn’t there before.
- Don’t withdraw cash at an ATM when you feel unsafe, such as when there’s someone standing very close to you.
- Don’t let yourself be distracted when withdrawing cash.
- Don’t accept help from anyone offering to help you at an ATM.
- If the ATM has swallowed your card, don’t leave the ATM, but block your card first (in the ABN AMRO app or by calling us).
- If you suspect that there is something wrong with an ATM, please report it to Geldmaat right away on 088 2274 100.
