If you are buying a home with a valid registered energy label B or higher, you will receive a discount on your mortgage interest rate: 0.10% for label B and 0.15% for label A. This allows you to benefit from a reduction in your monthly outgoings. You don't need to do anything to take advantage of this discount. We'll organise it for you. When am I eligible for the sustainability discount?

  • If you buy a home with a valid registered energy label B or higher
  • If you renovate a home to energy label B or higher and you register the energy label within 24 months of the start of your fixed-rate period
  • If you buy a newly built home

If you have a mortgage with ABN AMRO and a home with a valid registered energy label B or higher, your discount will automatically be included in the interest rate review.

Your energy label

An energy label indicates the energy efficiency of a home. A home with energy label A (or higher) is very energy efficient, while a home with energy label G is less energy efficient. An energy-efficient home often means lower energy costs, increased comfort and lower CO2 emissions. An energy label is valid for 10 years. After 10 years, you must register your energy label again. Via Milieu Centraal, you can easily see what your current energy label is and how long it is valid.

Registering your energy label

Not all homes have a valid registered energy label. You will receive a valid registered energy label when buying a home. You can also have your energy label registered by an energy adviser. The energy adviser will visit to inspect your home and will then carry out an energy performance calculation. You will then receive a valid registered energy label.

2. Appointment with an energy adviser

Make an appointment with an energy adviser. He or she will visit to inspect your home, record data and carry out an energy performance calculation.

3. Check your inbox

You will receive an energy label statement from your energy adviser. If you have energy label B or higher and want to take advantage of the sustainability discount, this is possible at the start of a new fixed-rate period, or if you register the energy label within 24 months of the start of your fixed-rate period.

Good to know about the sustainability discount

Who is it for?

You are eligible for the sustainability discount if you have a home with a registered energy label A or B at the start of a new interest rate contract, or if you have an energy label A or B registered with the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland, RVO) within 24 months of the start of the fixed-rate period. The discount is valid for a Woning Hypotheek mortgage, a Budget Hypotheek mortgage and a mortgage with the Dutch National Mortgage Guarantee (Nationale Hypotheek Garantie, NHG) if the (new) fixed-rate period started on or after 1 August 2021. 

You will automatically receive the interest rate discount from the first day of the month following the date the label is registered. Please note: it can take up to five working days before the energy label is registered. We will inform you in writing as soon as we have accepted the discount application. The discount will subsequently be valid until the end of the chosen fixed-rate period.

Period

You are entitled to the discount throughout the entire fixed-rate period. The sustainability discount applies to all fixed-rate periods (between 1 and 30 years). The continued validity of the sustainability discount will be determined at the start of each new fixed-rate period. This means you may receive a higher or lower discount at the start of the following fixed-rate period, or even no discount at all.

Sustainability discount already

You may already benefit from the sustainability discount from ABN AMRO. This discount will remain valid throughout your current fixed-rate period. The continued validity of the sustainability discount will be determined at the start of each new fixed-rate period. This means you may receive a higher or lower discount at the start of the following fixed-rate period, or even no discount at all. We will contact you about this around four months before the end of your fixed-rate period.

Combining with other discounts

You can combine the sustainability discount with the huisbankkorting (customer discount). You can add these discounts together. You cannot combine it with other types of discount.

Combining with the Duurzaam Wonen Hypotheek (Sustainable Home Mortgage)

You can take advantage of the sustainability discount on all loan components, with the exception of the Duurzaam Wonen Hypotheek (Sustainable Home Mortgage) component. This is because the Sustainable Home Mortgage is a mortgage component with an attractive interest rate. In addition, you do not pay a risk surcharge on this loan component. A reduced rate applies to the Sustainable Home Mortgage. You are not entitled to further discounts on this rate.
