Tips on secure mobile banking

The Mobile Banking app lets you manage your banking affairs on your smartphone or table at your own convenience. We do our utmost to ensure our customers can do their banking securely, but it is equally important for you yourself to be aware of how to use your device and your details securely. How to keep you banking secure

  • Always keep your Your PIN, your 5-digit identification code and your e.dentifier's response codes are referred to as security codes. secret, just like you do with your PIN. These codes protect your banking details and therefore also your money. Please note that ABN AMRO employees will never ask you for these codes— not by telephone, nor by email, text message, WhatsApp, or on social media. We will also never ask you to transfer money, and we will never email you links enabling you to directly log into your Mobile Banking app.
  • Enable your device's security settings. A screen lock will ensure that you are the only person who can unlock the screen using a code, pattern or your fingerprint, while anti-theft protection will keep your data safe if you ever happen to lose your phone.
  • Wi-Fi networks that are accessible without a password or with a freely available password are not secure. Be sure to always use your own mobile provider’s 4G network, which has the added advantage of being much faster!
  • Install any updates to the Mobile Banking app and your device’s operating system (iOS or Android) right away. Or enable apps to perform updates automatically. This will ensure that you are using the latest security features.
  • Make sure the apps you install are from official or reliable suppliers. Do not use apps not offered in the official app stores. Always be careful when apps ask for more privileges.

Our efforts to keep your banking activities secure

  • When you install the app, we will ask you to register your device. This will allow us to identify you by the device you are using to do your banking as well as by your identification code or fingerprint.     
  • We will ask for your identification code or fingerprint before allowing you to log in or make a transfer using the app. This way, anyone else who gets their hands on your device will not be able to access your account.
  • All data exchanged between the Mobile Banking app and ABN AMRO is encrypted and uses a secure connection.
  • If you do not use the Mobile Banking app for 5 minutes, you will automatically be logged out.
  • We look out for unusual payments.
