10 tips for safe Mobile Banking

Keep your identification code secret, just like your PIN. These codes protect your banking affairs and therefore your money.

2. Enable your device's screen lock. You will then be the only person who can unlock the screen using a code, pattern or your fingerprint, and no-one else will be able to access your details if you leave your device unattended for a short while.
Do not use public WiFi networks, in cafes or shops for instance. These are networks that you can use without entering a password. Although your app encrypts data before sending it, you can never be sure whether the WiFi network is properly secured.
Check your bank account on a regular basis. This way, you will quickly spot any irregular or incorrect debits.
Do not fall for phishing emails. In such emails, you are asked to click a link to a fake website which very closely resembles the bank's website. On the website, you are typically asked to enter your details and security codes. Learn to recognise fraud.
Set a daily limit. This is a maximum amount that you can transfer to third-party accounts using your identification code. You can set your daily limit yourself, up to a maximum of € 5,000

When you have finished with Mobile Banking, always log out of the app.

Install any updates to the Mobile Banking app and your device’s operating system (iOS or Android) right away. Or enable apps to perform updates automatically. This will ensure that you are using the latest security features.
Install an antivirus app on your device. This will scan all apps on your device for malware.
Only install new apps from the App Store or Google Play. Make sure the apps you install are from official or reliable suppliers.

Our efforts to keep your mobile banking activities secure

  • When you install the app, we will ask you to register your device once only. This will allow us to identify you by the device you are using to do your banking as well as by your identification code or fingerprint if you have enabled the fingerprint feature.

  • We will ask for your identification code before allowing you to log in or make a transfer using the app. This way, anyone else who gets their hands on your device will not be able to access your account. If you have enabled the fingerprint, do not share your device with others. Only register your own fingerprints on your device.

  • All data exchanged between the Mobile Banking app and ABN AMRO is encrypted and uses a secure connection.

  • If you do not use the Mobile Banking app for 5 minutes, you will automatically be logged out. This will prevent anyone else from viewing your data or transferring your money.

  • We are always on the lookout for unusual payments and we investigate any that do occur.
