Buying a house, moving house and renovating involves a lot of organisation work with lots of different parties. For that reason, it's wise to take out legal expenses insurance. What if you come across hidden defects? Or what if you get into a conflict with a contractor? Legal expenses insurance helps you sort this out and reimburses the costs of legal assistance.
When you buy a home, you should always take out a new home insurance policy. This means you are properly insured for damage to your home and belongings fixed in and to your home caused by incidents such as burglary, fire and storm. Remember to cancel your current home insurance policy, if you have one.

During your house move
If you're still living in your old house during your house move, any belongings that are already in the new home are also covered – but only if you report your move to us within 14 days. Once you move into your new home, any belongings you have left in your locked home will be covered up to a value of €5,000.
If you have a separate bathroom or kitchen in the empty new home before your house move, you can insure it against burglary for up to 21 days under your ABN AMRO home contents insurance. For any damage, there is an excess of 10%.
When you buy a house, it is a good idea to take out life insurance – especially if your housing costs have risen and young children are moving with you. If you take out life insurance, your next of kin will not be left with a mortgage debt they cannot pay.
If you're moving house and you have an ABN AMRO car insurance policy, your premium may change. This is because the amount of the premium partly depends on your postcode. The new premium will be specified on your new policy. Contact us if you want to know in advance how much your new premium will be.
If you start driving less, you can often save money on your premium by adjusting the mileage you drive each year. You change the mileage in a few simple steps by changing your cover.
