This quality mark gives you peace of mind that the insurer fulfils its promises and is committed to providing high-quality services.

4.3 for complaints service (on a scale of 1 to 5)

Commissioned by the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets, the Insurers Review Foundation conducted a study in 2019 into the complaints service and other feedback from customers. We have scored an average of 4.3 (on a scale of 1 to 5). We will get started with the recommendations and advice from this study. This way we make our services even better for you.

Frequently Asked Questions about non-life insurance

The amount you pay for your insurance consists of the following components:

  1. your insurance premium
  2. administrative costs and policy fee
  3. insurance tax on the premium and costs
The policy fee is € 4.39 (including insurance tax) when you take out a policy. A fee of € 9.98 (including insurance tax) applies when you take out car insurance and this fee also applies if you change your car insurance.

You will be charged 21% insurance tax on the premium and other costs. Some insurance policies or parts of policies are exempt from insurance tax. These include:  

  • life insurance
  • accident insurance, disability insurance and occupational disability insurance
  • health insurance or medical expenses insurance
  • unemployment insurance
  • goods in transit insurance
Your insurance premium will be debited from your account around the 1st of the month. If you pay your premium annually, it will be debited around the 1st of the month of your renewal date. This date is specified on your policy.
The premium due date is the date on which you have to pay your insurance premium.
You can change your premium payment with effect from the renewal date. This date is specified on your policy.
You will receive a package discount if you take out three or more insurance policies. If you have three insurance policies, you receive a 3% discount, for four insurance policies, you receive a 4% discount and for five or more insurance policies, you receive a 5% discount. The package discount will be paid out once a year. Read more about the package discount.
An excess is the amount deducted from the payout in the event of a claim, i.e. the amount that you will need to pay yourself. Your excess amount is shown on your policy.

You can cancel an ABN AMRO non-life insurance policy at any time, except your annual travel insurance. The minimum term for an annual travel insurance policy is one year. All insurance policies must be cancelled 30 days before the desired termination date. Read more about cancelling your insurance.
