Recognising fake requests

We would never ask this

A scammer or ABN AMRO? From telephone calls, emails and texts to doorstep crime: scammers use a whole range of tricks to mislead you. But if you know what we'd never ask you to do, it's easier to recognise fake requests. When in doubt, leave the message unanswered, end the call or close the door.

What would you do if 'ABN AMRO' asked you to...

log in directly via a link?

  • You receive an email or text, asking you to log in to 'ABN AMRO' immediately. The message contains a link for logging in directly.
  • Don't click any links in a message to log in directly.
  • Want to be sure you're logging in securely? Always use the ABN AMRO app or go to abnamro.nl yourself.

We would never ask you to log in directly via a link in an email or text message.

send your debit card?

  • You receive a message that says: 'You're getting a new debit card. Please send your old card to this address.'
  • Don't fall for it.
  • Your debit card is yours. If you get a request like this, you'll know that you're dealing with scammers.

We would never ask you to send us your debit card or hand it over when we visit you.

transfer money?

  • Someone calls you and says that your money isn't safe.
  • You need to do something quickly, like transfer money or download software.
  • Don't do this.
  • If we notice anything suspicious, we can take measures ourselves.

We would never ask you to transfer money or download software.
