And in August 2020, MoneyView gave ABN AMRO car insurance a 5-star rating for the terms and conditions of both our Limited and Comprehensive cover car insurance. MoneyView gives consumers unbiased insight into insurers’ terms and conditions and fees.

To claim or not to claim?

If you have a car insurance policy with Limited or Comprehensive cover, you should bear in mind that some claims will move you down on the no-claims bonus scale. This means a smaller discount and a higher premium for your car insurance. Knowing this, it may be smarter sometimes not to claim on your insurance for minor damage. Using the chart below, we will help you decide what would be best in your situation. And remember to check the car insurance terms and conditions

Not sure? Give us a call on +31(0)38 49 67 123 (between 8am and 9pm Monday to Friday and between 9am and 5pm on Saturday). We will go over your options with you to see what would be the best thing to do.

Claim car damage or not

*If your premium goes up too much after claiming for the damage, please get in touch with us to see whether it would be a good idea to pay back the amount of the claim later. If you decide to do that, your no-claims bonus will return to what it was. You will then have up to 24 months to pay back the amount claimed. This will lower your premium to the old level and we will refund the amount you overpaid.

Top ten excuses

We all get a little distracted now and again. But before you know it, you’ve run your car into something. That’s when it’s always nice to have an excuse to fall back on. We have put together a list of the best excuses for you. Do bear in mind, however, that these excuses work only if you have Comprehensive cover. If you have third-party liability cover or Limited cover, damage to your own car that you caused yourself is not covered.

  1. That post wasn’t there earlier

Diary of a car mechanic

Car mechanic Sandra has seen some unusual damage. We suspect that some of the excuses from our list might have been used in many of these cases. Here are some of the most unusual stories.

Michelle was driving out of a car park. She wanted to quickly check that she had her phone with her. Since her bag was on the passenger seat, she figured she could have a quick peek as she drove off. And that’s when she drove into a parked car, which she pushed into the car parked in front of it. Michelle damaged 3 cars, while she was only distracted for 2 seconds!

Last summer, Alex drove to the beach. It was too hot for shoes, so he was wearing flip flops. Not a good idea, because one flip flop got caught when Alex had to brake. He braked too late and collided with the car in front. Instead of on the beach, he ended up on the phone to ABN AMRO Claims Service.

When a family of ducks crossed the road in front of his car, Benjamin slammed the brakes. Luckily, he reacted quickly and the ducks got to the other side safe and sound. However, the person driving behind Benjamin was not so happy with his quick reaction. She was unable to brake quickly enough and crashed into the back of Benjamin’s car.

When the weather is nice, Natasha always likes to drive her convertible with the top down. On one of those hot summer days, however, the weather changed suddenly and the heavens opened. Natasha was having lunch at the time and had parked her car. With the top down. She quickly ran over to her car. But it was too late. The downpour had already turned her car’s interior into a bathtub.

The silver lining to all these stories is that these customers had ABN AMRO car insurance. So, the damage was repaired and they were able to hit the road again in no time. Need help with damage to your car? Click here to find out how to make a claim.
