What can I create a budget for?

You can create a budget for almost all categories available in Insights. For example: groceries, car and fuel, coffee and snacks or restaurants.

For what period can I create a budget?

You can set a budget that resets weekly, monthly or yearly. You can also choose a specific start and end date.

What amount can I set per budget?

It is up to you how much you want to spend per category. Would you like to know what people with a similar profile spend on average across different categories? Take a look at the Nibud website (in Dutch).

How do I track my budget?

You can see this in Insights under Budgets. There, you can see how much of your budget is left and how much time you still have to go. If you have more than 3 budgets? Go to Show all for the full overview.

What happens if I go over my budget?

If you go over your budget, it will turn red. Nothing else will happen. It is simply a tool to give you better insight into your spending per category and your own set budget.

Do I need to transfer money to my budget?

No, a budget only shows how much you have spent in a category such as groceries and if you are still within your set budget. It is not a ‘fund’ or ‘(savings) pot’.

Can I create new categories myself?

No, this is not possible. A budget is always linked to an existing category.

Can I delete a budget?

Yes, you can easily delete a budget. Here is how: Open the budget. Tap the three dots in the top right corner. Select Delete.

What if I forget to track my spending?

Your spending is tracked automatically. You do not need to do anything.

Get more control over your spendings

Have you ever spent too much on groceries, dining out or small everyday purchases without realising? If so, set up a budget in the ABN  AMRO app. The app automatically tracks your spending and shows if you are staying within your budget. This way, you always know where you stand and can adjust if needed.

How to set up Budgets

Create a budget

Go to Insights.
Tap Set up budget.
Choose the category for which you want to create a budget.
Choose the period.
Enter the amount.

Your budget will then appear in Insights. Here, you can see at a glance how many days you still have to go and how much of your budget is left.

Change a budget

Want to adjust a budget? You can change the amount as follows:

Open the budget you want to adjust.
Tap the three dots in the top right corner.
Select Edit.
Adjust the amount.

You cannot change the period. If you want to adjust it, you will need to delete the budget and create a new one.
