ABN AMRO

Proof of registration

When you open an account

When you open an account with a non-EU passport, we need to verify that you live in the Netherlands. We therefore require a copy of your registration with your local municipality. Read how to obtain this copy and share it with us.

Why we need proof of your registration

You can only make use of an ABN AMRO account if you have an official residential address in the Netherlands. This is why we ask you to provide a copy of your registration with your local municipality. By this we mean an extract from the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP).

You can still open the account even without proof of registration, but some features of your current account will in that case not yet be available. You will not be able to withdraw from or deposit cash at a cash machine and you will not be able to make SWIFT payments.

After we have received and approved your proof of registration, all features on your account will be enabled.

How to obtain and upload a copy of your registration

  1. Obtain a copy of your registration

You will receive the extract from the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP) free of charge when you first register at the municipality where you live. This may be at your expat centre or city town hall. This extract states your official address and in most cases your Citizen Service Number (BSN).

Are you onboarded by IN Amsterdam?

Are you are onboarded by IN Amsterdam and do you live in one of the following municipalities: Almere, Diemen, Haarlem, Haarlemmermeer, Hilversum or Velsen? In that case, in addition to your registration, you must also provide proof of your registration in your municipality. This could be a BRP extract or the confirmation of your change of address that has been sent to you by your municipality.
