iDEAL becomes Wero

Easy, secure online payments in Europe

Starting in January 2026, iDEAL will gradually be replaced by Wero. Wero works in the same way as iDEAL, but has more options. For example, iDEAL only works in the Netherlands, whereas you can use Wero to make payments in the Netherlands and Europe. Wero is just as secure and reliable as iDEAL, but has a new look and is fit for the future.

Gradual transition to Wero

The transition will begin in 2026 with the introduction of the new joint iDEAL-Wero logo. But luckily, a lot will also stay the same with Wero:

  • The same steps when making a payment
  • The same payment page
  • You still pay through your own familiar bank

When are things set to change?

The transition from iDEAL to Wero will be phased in gradually in 2026 and 2027. Here’s what you’ll notice in each phase.
