What do you need to know about liability insurance?

Liability insurance covers damage for which you are legally liable. For example, because you have damaged something belonging to someone else. Or because someone suffers personal injury because of you. Find out how liability insurance works.

Why is liability insurance useful?

Liability insurance is not compulsory by law. If you cause damage to someone else, you might be held legally liable for it. The cost of the damage will then be recovered from you. With liability insurance, you are covered for these costs when this happens.

What should I do in the event of damage or theft?

To make a claim under your liability insurance, you must be held liable for the damage by someone else. Has anyone done so? Notify ABN AMRO Insurance as soon as possible. They will then establish exactly what happened together with you, whether the damage is covered and the extent of the damage.

No intentional or deliberate risk

An important condition of liability insurance is that you do not intentionally cause damage or deliberately take a risk. Intent applies, for example, if you use force and thereby cause injury to someone. An example of deliberate risk-taking is playing football with glasses on. If your glasses are damaged by getting hit with a ball while playing football, this damage is not covered.
