Frequently asked questions
How much does a joint account cost?
A joint account costs €5.20 per month. You can cancel the second debit card at any time.
The fee is due every month in advance. This starts in the first month after you take out the package.
What’s included in a joint account?
A joint account includes a bank account, two debit cards and access to online banking. This is a flexible payment package.
You choose what else you’d like in your basic package, such as a credit card. This way, you only pay for the products you use. And if you change your mind, that’s no problem. You can make changes online in no time. See all the fees at a glance.
Which identity documents can I use to open an account with ABN AMRO?
You can open an account and identify yourself in the ABN AMRO app using these identity documents:
- Dutch proof of identity (ID card, driving licence or passport)
- A passport from another country (with the exception of a United States passport)
- A Dutch residence permit (type I, II, III, IV, V, EU/EEA, EU/EEA family member)
See how to open an account using the ABN AMRO app.
If you have a United States passport, you’ll have to visit a branch of ABN AMRO to become a client. Call us to make an appointment at one of our branches. This does unfortunately mean you can’t take part in this promotion.
The details entered for my identity document are incorrect. Can I change them?
Please check your details once you’ve uploaded your identity document. You can still change your name and date of birth at this point.
We may refuse your request if we’re unable to check the details. You’ll then need to restart the request.
Why do I need to identify myself?
All banks have a statutory obligation to check their clients’ identity and to check that they are allowed to become a client.
This is laid down in the Dutch Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorist Financing Act (Wwft) as a way of countering money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
What should I do if my request is refused?
If your request is refused, you’ll see an ‘error screen’ in the ABN AMRO app. This will explain what has happened and what you can do.
Who signs the contract when I open a joint account?
Both partners must sign to open a joint account. Once you’ve both signed, we’ll open the account and send you the debit cards with activation codes.
How can I make sure that my name comes first on the account?
To ensure that your name is used for the account, you should start the request process for the joint account yourself. If the other requester starts the request process, their name will be used for the account.
Our request for a joint account was refused. What can we do?
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to benefit from this promotion. Take a look at the promotion terms and conditions to see what makes you eligible.
How does the promotion work?
You must both download the ABN AMRO app. One of you, the main requester, opens the app and taps ‘Open new payment account’. Then select ‘Us together’. Enter the promotion code BANKSTEL and follow the on-screen steps. The joint requester will also be asked to enter details during the process.
Tip: if your partner isn’t an ABN AMRO client yet, make sure that they have valid ID to hand.
Please note: the joint account will be in the name of the person that starts the request process. If your request is approved and you meet the terms and conditions, you’ll both receive an email telling you that your package with 2 oyster walk vouchers is on its way.
We forgot to enter the promotion code. What can we do?
Unfortunately, you won’t be able to benefit from this promotion, as the promotion code can’t be processed in retrospect.
Who can access this benefit?
This benefit is aimed at Preferred Banking clients who satisfy the promotion terms and conditions.
When will we receive the oyster walk?
You’ll receive the free oyster walk vouchers within 3 weeks of opening the account at the latest. You’ll be sent a confirmation email with the track-and-trace code.
When does this benefit expire?
This promotion is valid until 30 September 2025 inclusive.
How long are the oyster walk vouchers valid?
The vouchers from Koester je Oester are valid for one year.
