A qualified electronic signature is the most reliable type of electronic signature. It is an electronic signature with a qualified certificate created using a qualified device (for example, a smartphone). Such a certificate is linked to a digital code that senders attach to their message. These certificates are issued exclusively by specialized organizations, such as itsme.

When you choose identification via itsme, your face is automatically compared to your identity document. This is done using a computer program that compares photos automatically, without the involvement of a staff member. According to privacy legislation, this is considered biometric processing. This is only allowed if you give your consent.

What does this mean for you?

• We inform you about the use of your facial data, for example through this explanation.
• The automatic comparison is only performed if you give your consent.
• Photos are only used for the comparison and are not stored, not even by itsme.
• You can choose not to use itsme. In that case, select another method for signing.

What are the alternatives?

If you do not give consent for automatic facial comparison via itsme, you can choose another identification method:

• ZealID, where a staff member manually checks your identity document and selfie.
• A paper-based process via mail, where you physically send in documents.

This way, we ensure that you always have a choice that suits your preferences.

You can use itsme if you are 18 years or older. You need a valid identity document from one of the supported countries. 

Download the itsme app from the App Store or Play Store. The first time you log in, you will go through the identification process. To do this, you will need:

• A mobile phone with Touch ID or Face ID
• A valid identity document (ID card, passport, or residence permit)

Nothing happens without your consent. We always inform you precisely which personal data you are about to share and with whom. We request your approval for every action. In addition, your login and transaction data are never commercially used or shared with third parties.

itsme follows European regulations on electronic identification (eIDAS) and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This means that your data is protected in the best possible way.
