Frequently asked questions
Where can I find the settlement instructions?
Please contact ces-desk@nl.abnamro.com to request our SSIs.
Is my company subject to the EU ETS?
To determine if your company is subject to the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS), you need to evaluate whether your operation fall under the scope of activities and thresholds specified by the EU ETS Directive.
How can I purchase EUAs?
You can purchase EUA at auctions that are organised by the European Energy Exchange (EEX) on behalf of the EU, Germany and Poland. And EUAs can be bought and sold on the secondary market.
If you do not have access to these markets, you can contact ABN AMRO’s Carbon Environmental Solutions desk for assistance.
What is the purpose of the Union Registry?
The Union Registry serves to guarantee accurate accounting for all allowances issued under the EU emissions trading system (EU ETS). The registry keeps track of the ownership of allowances held in electronic accounts, just as a bank has a record of all its customers and their money.
The Dutch Emissions Authority manages the Dutch part of the Union Registry.
What is the reporting period under the EU-ETS?
The reporting period is a calendar year from 1 January until 31 December. When you are subject to the EU ETS, you must verify the emissions data for the reporting period by an accredited verifier by 31 March of the following year. On 30 September of the following year, the emissions allowances must be surrendered.
What is the minimum lot size for EUA orders?
For the spot auction, orders are executable as multiples of 500 EUAs. For the secondary spot market as well as the forward market ABN AMRO Bank accepts order sizes of multiples of 1,000 EUAs. Other order sizes can be discussed.
Is ABN AMRO going to provide services under the EU ETS II?
The EU ETS II refers to the expansion and revision of the European Union Emissions Trading System, which aims to further reduce greenhouse gas emissions across various sectors. ABN AMRO aims to be ready to also facilitate the buying and selling of emission allowances under EU ETS II.
