For the construction of a new distribution centre in Dinteloord, Zijderlaan asked us to consider sustainable financing options. What makes the distribution centre so sustainable?
Zijderlaan's new distribution centre is being constructed according to the BREEAM Outstanding standard, the highest sustainability certification for real estate. This means that the design, materials, and techniques are all focused on minimising environmental impact. The building will feature 3,200 solar panels, electric charging points, and a heat pump for heating, among other things. To achieve the BREEAM Outstanding certification, measures such as hedgehog pathways and swales have been implemented to enhance biodiversity in and around the site.
Sabine Zijderlaan, Managing Director of Zijderlaan, states: "We see sustainability as an important aspect of our services. We are also exploring the possibilities of electrifying part of our fleet and creating a public charging plaza."
A green future for logistics
In addition to constructing this new logistics centre, Zijderlaan boasts an impressive fleet and continues to invest in the latest technologies to make their fleet more environmentally friendly. The newest additions to their fleet comply with European regulations for dimensions and weights and offer significant advantages in terms of fuel savings and CO2 reduction, up to 10%.
The current engines are designed to be clean and efficient, and are compatible with the latest biofuels, further reducing the CO2 emissions from road transport.
The investment in sustainability not only provides Zijderlaan with an environmentally friendly operation but also financial benefits, such as lower interest costs through the ABN AMRO Green Loan. The first phase of their new distribution centre is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.
