My business has been sold. What happens next?
Life after the sale

For the outside world, selling a business often seems straightforward. Someone sells their company successfully and receives a sum of money. In reality, it is usually more complex. That busy Monday morning is suddenly “free”, and what should you do with the funds now sitting in your account?
3 tips for after the sale
We are pleased to share our expertise on the phase following the sale of your business.
Creating space to reflect
Placing the proceeds temporarily in a savings account and giving yourself time to let everything sink in. According to expert Hilde Wuisman, this may well be the most important tip.
Privacy
Wealth is pleasant, but it also has a downside. When assets are highly visible, they can attract people with the wrong intentions. It is therefore advisable to keep the sale of your business out of local or regional media, for example.
Your children
It is also important not to overlook any children who will find themselves in this new situation. Preparing them is wise, as sooner or later the proceeds from the business will also come to them.

Expert insights
‘Book yourself a good holiday and take a few weeks off. Honestly, it helps. Once you’re back home, it’s important to get a clear view of your new financial situation. What level of disposable income do I want? Will I invest, save, or, after all these years, finally retire? Take your time — even a full year — to think this through.’
“Years of hard work are turned into hard cash. The company is no longer yours, but someone else’s. And then? What does life look like after the sale?”

Talking about your wealth together
Many families find it difficult to discuss transferring wealth to the next generation, and so postpone the subject. With the Family Plan, we guide you and your adult children through a process in which you discuss shared future plans, ambitions, wishes and any concerns regarding future wealth. This helps you take well-considered steps towards a sustainable transfer of assets.
