Investing based on your investor profile
If you decide to invest, it is very important that your investments match the level of risk you are willing and able to take, your investment knowledge and experience, and your sustainability preferences. Are you looking to invest with our advice, or would you like us to manage your assets? If so, we would like to know:
- What your risk profile is
- How much investment knowledge and experience you have
- What your sustainability profile is
We will therefore ask you a number of questions before you start investing. Your answers will lead to an investor profile.
Your risk profile
Your risk profile helps you see how much risk you are willing and able to take with your investments. For each risk profile, we indicate an expected long-term return. If you invest according to the risk profile that suits you best, you are more likely to achieve the return that can reasonably be expected for that profile, and less likely to lose more than you consider acceptable. Your risk profile is therefore a useful guide when making investment decisions. Once you have determined your investor profile, we will send you a report consisting of:
- Your investor profile
- A feasibility analysis
This analysis gives you an indication of how the value of your investment portfolio could develop over the long term. It also shows how your investments could perform in favourable, expected and adverse market conditions.
Risk meter for investing
You will see a risk meter for each of the six risk profiles. This allows you to quickly compare the risk profiles of different banks and investment firms. The risk meter is a standard developed by the Dutch Banking Association (NVB). ABN AMRO and other banks affiliated with the NVB have agreed to use this risk meter as the standard. Read part 1 of the brochure ‘A closer look at your investor profile’ for more information.

Your knowledge and experience
We will also ask about your investment knowledge and experience. For example, what do you know about the different investment products, and have you invested in them before and, if so, for how long?
- Invest with the level of risk that suits you
- Easily compare risk profiles using the risk meter
- Always adaptable to your personal situation
Your sustainability profile
We would also like to know how important sustainability is to your investments. We will ask you a number of questions about your sustainability preferences. Based on your answers, we will discuss with you which sustainability profile suits you best.
