Add your Rabobank or bunq account to Grip

You can now add all your Rabobank and bunq accounts to Grip, even if you’re not an ABN AMRO customer! If you have a current account with another bank, you’ll soon be able to add that account to Grip too.

What is Grip?

The Grip app shows you all your transactions at a glance, automatically assigning them to categories. You can set a budget for each category and receive a push notification when you have nearly reached your limit. You cannot transfer funds using Grip – you need the Mobile Banking app for this.

Who it is for

Grip is available to ABN AMRO personal customers aged 18 or above with one or more current accounts. You need to use the Mobile Banking app in order to add an account to Grip. Bunq premium customers can also use Grip.

Grip is free of charge. You will need internet access to use the app, so if you use mobile internet, your telecommunications provider may charge you.

What you need

You will need an iPhone running at least iOS 10 or an Android device running at least version 5.0. The app is not (yet) available for Windows Phone.

Start using Grip

Download the Grip app on your smartphone. If you use an iPhone, go to the App Store. If yours is an Android device, go to Google Play. You can then create an account in 4 easy steps:

  1. Enter your mobile number. You will be sent a text message with an activation code.
  2. Enter the activation code to activate Grip on your mobile.
  3. Choose a 6-digit log-in code and confirm it.
  4. Add your ABN AMRO or bunq premium account to Grip.

If you have problems registering, try downloading the Mobile Banking app again. If you have already used Grip previously, please state that you already have a Grip account when you register.

Stop using Grip

If you no longer wish to use the app, simply follow these 4 steps:

  1. Log in to the Grip app. 
  2. Go to ‘Profile’.
  3. Select ‘Grip account'. 
  4. Select the option to delete the Grip account and follow the instructions.
Adding or removing an ABN AMRO account

All of the ABN AMRO current and savings accounts that you use in the Mobile Banking app can be added to Grip. Accounts for which you are not authorised will not appear in the Grip app. You decide upon registration which accounts you want to use in Grip and you can enable or disable accounts at any time after registering. Simply go to the 'Accounts' tab and select 'Save' or 'Every day' (current accounts) at the top. Then enable or disable the account.

Adding a Rabobank account

To add your Rabobank account to Grip, go to ‘Profile’ in the Grip app. Select ‘Add new’ next to 'Banks’ and choose Rabobank. You will now be redirected to Rabobank to confirm your choice. After logging in and confirming your request, you will automatically return to the Grip app.

Adding a bunq account

You can add a bunq account if you are a bunq premium user. Simply go to 'Profile' in the Grip app and select 'Add new' next to 'Banks'. You will be asked to enter your API key, which you will first need to create in your bunq app. Log in to your bunq app and go to your profile. Select 'Beveiliging & instellingen' [Security & settings] > 'Developers' > 'API keys'. Create an API key, copy it and paste it in the Grip app.

Adding an ABN AMRO credit card

First activate your ABN AMRO credit card in the Mobile Banking app, then go to the 'Accounts' tab in the Grip app. Select 'Every day' (current accounts) and add your credit card details (you can also remove your credit card in this section).

The Grip app uses the ABN AMRO credit card details as supplied by ICS (International Card Services) to ABN AMRO. ICS is responsible for the completeness and accuracy of your credit card details.

Want to add your ICS credit card details to the Grip app? Go to ‘Settings’ > ‘Manage account overview’ to the Grip app. Click the ‘Add other bank’ button and select ICS. You will now be redirected to ICS. You will then be asked to specify the credit card you have and to log in. After confirming your request, you will automatically return to the Grip app.
