ABN AMRO Annual Travel Insurance explained

ABN AMRO Annual Travel Insurance covers you all year round for an unlimited number of holidays, including weekend breaks. Alongside the extensive basic cover, you can also easily choose the additional cover you need.

Who it is for

ABN AMRO Annual Travel Insurance is aimed at personal customers with an ABN AMRO current account who go on holiday several times a year. 

You can also choose to insure your children who live at home, who live away from home and are in full-time education or who live in a nursing home or care home. Your children are then also covered if they go on holiday without you.

What is insured

Basic cover includes the following as standard:

  • loss or damage as a result of loss or theft of luggage. The standard excess on luggage and cash is €50 per event
  • assistance in the event of an accident, illness, hospitalisation or the death of an insured person
  • a payout in the event that an insured person is left permanently disabled or dies as the result of an accident
  • unexpected costs incurred as a result of a trip being cut short due to illness or the death of an insured person
  • unexpected costs incurred as a result of a trip being extended due to strike action, border closure or a natural disaster
  • unexpected costs incurred as a result of irreparable damage to a tent you are using during your trip
  • internships, voluntary work and study trips

Not insured

You are not insured in the following situations:

  • if the loss or damage is caused deliberately
  • if the loss or damage is caused under the influence of alcohol, drugs or medication
  • if the loss or damage is incurred while engaging in dangerous sports
  • if you are staying at a seasonal or permanent campsite in the Netherlands

European cover

You are insured in countries in Europe as standard. For the purposes of cover provided by our insurance policy, Europe includes:

  • all European countries, including Russia up to the Urals in the east
  • the following countries around the Mediterranean: Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey and Portugal
  • islands that are part of Spain (Balearic Islands, Canary Islands)
  • islands that are part of Portugal (Madeira/Porto Santo, Azores)

If you are travelling to a country outside of Europe, you should opt for worldwide cover.

Adding additional cover

Decide for yourself what additional cover you would like take out. You can choose from the following options:

  • Worldwide cover
  • Cancellation charges: insurance if you have to cancel or cut short your trip
  • Medical expenses: insurance for medical costs abroad
  • Winter sports: insurance for loss or damage incurred while engaging in winter sports, such as the costs of damage to or the theft of your ski or snowboarding equipment
  • Breakdown cover in Europe: assistance if your car breaks down
  • Extended trip cover: insurance for more than 60 days but fewer than 365 days
  • Business trips: cover for business trips abroad

Insured amounts

Find out the maximum compensation you can receive in the event of a claim 

The list of repreciation rates indicates the average life and annual depreciation rate for each product, so you can see how much compensation you could receive in the event of a claim in relation to loss or damage incurred while you are on holiday.

Fees

Premium 

The premium depends on the cover you choose, your family situation and your excess amount. 

The standard excess on luggage and cash is €50 per event. You can also opt for an excess of €125. If you do, you will receive a 20% discount on the premium for the basic cover.

Administration costs 

If this is your first ABN AMRO non-life insurance policy, you will be charged an administration fee of €0.69 (including 21% insurance tax) for collecting the premium. i.e. monthly or annually. If you already have one or more ABN AMRO non-life insurance policies, you will not be charged an administration fee.

Insurance tax

You will be charged insurance tax on the Annual Travel Insurance premium and costs. This amount will be included in the calculation of your premium. The premium is taxed in part and the insurance tax depends on your family situation. In any case, you will be charged (insurance tax on the premium for additional cover: cancellation charges, winter sports cover, roadside assistance in Europe and business travel cover.

Policy costs

You will receive one policy document for each type of insurance. The policy costs are €4.39 (including insurance tax). If you already have an ABN AMRO non-life insurance policy, you will not need to pay any additional policy costs if you take out an ABN AMRO Annual Travel Insurance policy.

ABN AMRO Schadeverzekering N.V. pays ABN AMR Bank N.V. a fee for this. Policy commencement

You can choose whether to have the insurance policy commence on the next day or at a later date (maximum six months in the future). 

Please note: You can only insure cancellation charges within seven days of booking your trip. 

After taking out this insurance policy, you have 14 days to cancel the insurance free of charge. Simply return the policy document within 14 days of taking out the insurance to
