What is Liability Insurance?

ABN AMRO's Liability Insurance provides coverage for bodily injury and property damage accidentally caused by you, your family members or pet(s) and for which you are legally responsible.

Who is it for?

Everyone should have Liability Insurance. Because you can hurt someone or damage their property accidently. You are also legally liable for damage or injury that you cause.  ABN AMRO's Liability Insurance covers you and your whole family. Worldwide. In some situations, there is also coverage when you are not liable. Cover can also include situations in which you are not liable, such as sports, games, sleepover and childminding situations. You must have a current account with ABN AMRO in order to take out this insurance. The premium is paid from this account.

Who is covered?

Family situation: single, with or without children. The following people are covered:

  • You (also as a property owner).

  • Your pets. Dogs, cats and even a horse, a limited number of sheep and other small livestock are covered if you keep them as a hobby.

  • Your domestic staff, if their liability is related to work they are doing for you.

  • Your or your cohabiting partner's minor child.

  • Your or your cohabiting partner's studying adult child, who is living with you or in student accommodation.

Who is covered?

Family situation: cohabiting, family with or without children. The following people are covered:

  • You (also as a property owner).

  • Your cohabiting partner.

  • Your or your cohabiting partner's minor child.

  • Your or your cohabiting partner's studying adult child, who is living with you or in student accommodation.

  • Another person other than the ones stated above that has been living with you for a longer period of time as part of the family.

  • Your lodgers, providing their liability is not covered elsewhere.

  • Your domestic staff, if their liability is related to work they are doing for you.

  • Your pets. Dogs, cats and even a horse, a limited number of sheep and other small livestock are covered if you keep them as a hobby.

Sum insured

You can opt for one of the following maximum insurance sums per event:

  • € 1,250,000

  • € 2,500,000

What is not covered?

You are not covered in the following cases, among others:

  • Malicious damage.

  • Damage caused with or by motorized land and water vehicles by minors.

  • Damage caused by firearms. 

  • Hunting is not part of the standard package. If you would like to take out hunting insurance, call 0900 - 81 70 .

Excess

There is no excess, but you can opt for a voluntary excess of € 100 or € 175 per event. If you have children, you can opt for a voluntary excess of €175 per event. Opting for a voluntary excess gives you an additional discount on your premium. If you would like to have a voluntary excess, call 0800 - 00 (free of charge).

Fees

  • Premium
    The premium depends on your family situation.

  • Discount
    If you choose a voluntary excess, you will get a discount on your premium. The amount of discount depends on the cover and the excess you choose.  
    The Liability Insurance is a package insurance. If you have several package insurances with ABN AMRO, you will receive a package discount. The more package insurances you have, the higher the discount.  The discount is given across all your packages and can can be as high as 5%. It's worth buying all your insurance from ABN AMRO. We pay back the discount once a year in arrear. The discount is paid into your account once a year in arrears.

  • Policy fee
    You will receive one policy for all your insurances and will therefore pay the policy fee only once. The policy fee is  €4.39. If you already have a package insurance, you will not pay the policy fee again.

  • Administration fees
    If you have other insurances with ABN AMRO, you will not pay additional administration fees. If this is the first insurance you are buying from ABN AMRO, you will pay a administration fee of

    €0.69 (including 21% insurance premium tax)

    for the collection of the premium. The administration fee is paid together with the premium once a month or once a year. We debit the total amount for all of the insurances from your account at once. 

  • Insurance premium tax
    You pay 21% over the premium and fees.

Insurance start date

You determine whether you want the cover to start immediately or sometime in the future.

If you change your mind, send back the policy.
After you receive your policy, you have 14 days to cancel the insurance. Without having to pay anything. All you have to do is send back the policy within 14 days.

When can I cancel?

You can cancel your insurance at any time without stating a reason. 

Submitting a claim

If you or a member of your family accidently damaged something that belongs to someone else, you can submit a claim online, by post or by telephone (pdf, 350kB).
