Everything you need to know about our Car Insurance

What is the Car Insurance?

ABN AMRO Autoverzekering provides cover for damage caused by your car to others. This is called 'third party liability' and is mandatory for every car. You can extend your ABN AMRO Autoverzekering policy in one of two ways:

  • You can get additional insurance for your own car against damage caused by theft, fire, window damage, storms and collisions with animals. (Third-party liability + limited cover).

  • If you take out a comprehensive insurance policy for your car, it is also insured if you are the party at fault in a collision. (Third-party liability + comprehensive cover).

Who is it for?

With ABN AMRO Car Insurance, you insure the car that you buy and use privately. Are you a freelancer? Then you can also insure the car if you buy it privately and don't count VAT. Do you use your car (partly) for business? Then you need a BedrijfsPolis. This is also the case if you rent your car, get paid for transporting goods or people, or use your car to give driving lessons. Carpooling or travelling to sports events do not fall under business use.

To have this insurance, you need a current account with ABN AMRO. Insurance premiums will be paid from this account.

What is covered?

You can choose between 3 types of insurance policies

  • Third-party liability

  • Third party liability + Limited cover

  • Third-party liability + Comprehensive cover (all risks)

    The right insurance policy for you depends on various factors, such as how old the car is, how much it is worth and the risk you would like to insure. We have listed the differences between each type of cover. You can view the differences here.

Payout for damages

Please refer to the terms & conditions (pdf, 404kB) (in Dutch) for information on what is covered by ABN AMRO Schadeverzekering in the event of damage.

Excess

If you use the ABN AMRO Schade Service, no excess applies. However, there are exceptions in the event of damages caused by actual or attempted theft, break-ins, joyriding and in the event of damage to windows.

  • Excess is sometimes applicable in the event of damages caused by actual or attempted theft and joyriding.

  • If your car meets the security conditions, no excess applies.

  • If your car does not meet the security conditions, an excess of 2.5% of the original recommended retail price applies, with a minimum of €375 per event. For more information about this, please refer to the 'Security conditions' section.
    In the event of damage to a car window, an excess will always apply.

  • If you use the ABN ANRO Schade Service in the event of damage to a car window, an excess of €75 applies for the replacement window.

  • If you decide not to use the ABN AMRO Schade Service, the excess will be €150.

ABN AMRO Schade Service

Selecting one of the ABN AMRO-approved car or car glass repair services has the following benefits:

  • Complimentary alternative transport while your vehicle is being repaired, for up to 25 days (except in the event of damage to car windows);

  • 4-year guarantee on the repairs;

  • ABN AMRO will pay the invoice to the car repair service directly;

  • the excess of €150 does not apply (an excess of €75 applies only in the event of window replacement).

    If you decide not to use an approved car repair service, you will not be able to take advantage of these benefits. The payout will also not exceed the amount that the insurer would have paid if you had gone to an ABN AMRO-approved car repair service. In the event of damage, an excess of €150 will apply.

    Please call the ABN AMRO Schade Service on 0900 - 00 24 (usual call charges apply). Our staff will be able to advise you on the nearest car repair service and ensure you receive assistance as soon as possible.

Fees

  • Premium
    Contact the International Clients Department to find out how high the premium will be.

  • Discount
    The ABN AMRO Car Insurance is a package policy. If you have taken out several package policies with ABN AMRO, you will receive a package discount. If you decide to insure a second car with us, it counts as additional insurance.
    The more package policies you have, the higher your discount. The discount will apply for all of your package policies and can be as much as 5%! Taking out all of your package insurances with ABN AMRO is therefore very cost-effective. ABN AMRO pays the discount into your account annually at the end of the year.

  • Initial commission
    You will be charged €9.98 (inc insurance tax) for the ABN AMRO Car Insurance. These costs cover your registration with the RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority) and sending the Green card and the European claims form.

  • Administration fees
    If you have other insurances with ABN AMRO, you will not pay additional administration fees. If this is the first insurance you are buying from ABN AMRO, you will pay a administration fee of

    €0.69 (including 21% insurance premium tax)

    for the collection of the premium. The administration fee is paid together with the premium once a month or once a year. We debit the total amount for all of the insurances from your account at once.

  • Policy fee
    For the ABN AMRO Car Insurance, no policy fee will be charged.

  • Insurance premium tax
    You will be charged 21% on the premium of the Car Insurance and the fees. This is reflected in your premium calculation.

Claim-free years

A claim-free year is an insurance year in which you have not submitted any claims affecting your no-claims bonus level. The number of claim-free years is important when applying for a new car insurance policy because it determines the no-claims bonus you will receive at the start of your insurance policy. More information about how the number of claim-free years is determined is available. To find out how many claim-free years you have, please refer to the annual letter you receive from the insurer on the review date of your insurance package.

No-claim discount

If you have not submitted any claims for a longer period of time, you will benefit from a higher discount on your premium. The number of claim-free years partly determines your no-claims bonus level based on the so-called no-claims scheme. There is a specific premium bonus or premium surcharge for each level, and this is also referred to as a no-claims bonus. If you have had five claim-free years, you will benefit from a 75% bonus on your premium. For more information, please refer to the explanation about claim-free years and the no-claims bonus scale.

Second family car

If your second family car is also insured with ABN AMRO, you will get the same no-claim discount as for your first car (up to a maximum of 75%).

Security Conditions

Many cars have integrated electronic security measures in order to minimise the risk of car break-ins and theft. For the 'Third party liability + limited cover' and 'Third-party liability + comprehensive cover' policy, the car's security measures must comply with specific requirements.
Please refer to the security information
