ABN AMRO Short-Term Cancellation Insurance

Our Short-Term Cancellation Insurance policy covers all or part of the costs of your trip if you need to cancel all or part of your trip due to, for example, a serious illness, a serious accident or the death of an insured person, partner or first- or second-degree family member. In these situations, our helpline is available to provide you with 24/7 assistance.

Short-Term Cancellation Insurance explained

ABN AMRO Short-Term Cancellation Insurance covers all or part of the costs of your trip if you need to cancel your trip or return home earlier than planned. The maximum insured amount is € 20,000 per trip.

Who it is for

You can take out ABN AMRO Short-Term Cancellation Insurance if:

  • you will shortly be booking a holiday
  • you have just booked a holiday (please note: you can only insure cancellation charges within seven days of booking your trip)
  • you also take out ABN AMRO Annual Travel Insurance. If the cost of the trip per person is more than €3,000 (i.e. the maximum insured amount covered under the cancellation charges cover under the ABN AMRO Annual Travel Insurance policy), the remaining amount above €3,000 can be insured under the ABN AMRO Short-Term Cancellation Insurance policy.
What is insured

You are covered if you need to cancel your trip or return home earlier than planned due to, for example:

  • a serious illness, a serious accident or the death of a first-degree or second-degree family member
  • unexpected urgent medical treatment required by your partner or a child living with you
  • pregnancy after booking the trip
  • complications during pregnancy
  • serious damage to a property you own or rent or the premises in which you work
  • damage to your holiday accommodation
  • your or your partner being made involuntarily unemployed
  • divorce proceedings or dissolution of a cohabitation contract

You are also insured in the event of an unexpected delay, provided that:

  • the delay is more than 8 hours long, and
  • you are travelling by plane, bus, train or boat, and
  • your trip was due to last longer than 3 days

Not insured

You are not insured if your trip is cancelled or cut short in the following situations:

  • trips to areas for which the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued negative travel advice
  • events which were foreseeable at the time of booking the trip or taking out the cancellation insurance policy (for example, unemployment)
  • bankruptcy of the tour operator

Fees

Premium 

You will pay 5.13% of the total costs of the trip with a minimum of € 12.82

Policy costs

The one-off policy costs are € 3.57 (excl. insurance premium tax)

Insurance tax

Insurance tax will be included in the calculation of your premium. You will be charged 21% insurance tax on the premium and costs.

Excess

No excess applies.

Policy commencement

You can choose when the insurance policy will take effect. However, the ABN AMRO Short-Term Cancellation Insurance must take effect within seven days of booking your trip.

Submitting a claim

You can submit claims online, in writing or over the phone.
