What you can do

Following these tips will help make Internet Banking even safer

  • Keep your Internet Banking code secret. Your code gives criminals access to your money.

  • The login process for Internet Banking never changes. If you think something has changed, call us on 0900 - 00 24.

  • Make sure the computer you do your banking on is secure. Update your virus scanner and your software regularly.

Does the website you're logging in to really belong to the bank?

Logging in to Internet Banking starts a secure internet connection. To get around this security, criminals will send you to a fake website. Here are a few tips that enable you to see whether you are really logging in to ABN AMRO's website:

  • Enter 'https://www.abnamro.nl' in your browser's address bar. Do not click on a link that is sent to you in an email, for example. By doing this, you’ll know for sure that you're on the right website.

  • Make sure the internet address starts with https://. The 's' stands for 'secure'. If the address starts with 'http' (without the 's'), the internet connection is not secure. Stop whatever you're doing in Internet Banking and contact us.

  • Make sure the address of the ABN AMRO website is spelled correctly. Criminals can create misleading websites with a slightly different name, such as abnarmo.nl instead of abnamro.nl.

The padlock in the address bar

Logging in to Internet Banking starts a secure internet connection. Look for the padlock. You will find the padlock at the top of the screen either next to or in front of the address bar. Clicking on the padlock displays the name of the bank. If you do not see the padlock or the name of the bank looks different, the connection is not secure. Stop using Internet Banking and call us on 0900 - 00 24.
